Responsible Gambling

Gambling is paid entertainment, not a way to make money or fix a money problem. The house holds the edge over time, so the only sustainable way to play is with money you have decided in advance you can afford to lose. This page explains every tool you can use to stay in control — the ones built into the casinos, the ones that work across every site, and where to get free, confidential help the moment play stops feeling fun.

Pamtree is an independent affiliate. We only feature operators that provide real player-protection controls, but the responsibility for your safety ultimately sits with you and with the tools below — so it is worth knowing exactly what is available.

The golden rules

The responsible gambling tools available to you

Every reputable operator builds a set of self-management controls into your account — usually under a menu called Responsible Gambling, Account Limits or Safer Gambling. They are free, they apply instantly, and using them never affects your balance or withdrawals. Here's what to look for and what each one actually does:

Deposit limits

Cap how much you can pay in per day, week or month. This is the single most effective control — set it to a figure you would be comfortable losing entirely, because you might.

Loss limits

Cap net losses over a period rather than deposits. Once you hit the ceiling, further wagering is blocked until the window resets — useful for stopping a chase.

Wager & stake limits

Limit total turnover or the maximum single stake. Handy if the problem is speed and volume of play rather than the size of your deposits.

Session timers & reality checks

Set a maximum session length, or a pop-up reminder every 30 or 60 minutes showing how long you have played and whether you are up or down. Breaks the trance.

Take a break (cooling-off)

A short lockout — typically 24 hours, 7 days, 30 days or 6 weeks. The account freezes for the period you choose and reopens automatically afterwards.

Self-exclusion

A longer or permanent block (6 months, 1 year, 5 years or indefinite). The operator must close the account and stop marketing to you for the full term.

Reverse-withdrawal lock

Stops you from cancelling a pending withdrawal and gambling the money back. Switch it on and a cash-out is final once requested.

Marketing opt-out

Turn off bonus offers, emails, SMS and push notifications so you are not pulled back in by promotions when you are trying to cut down.

How to set your limits (it takes two minutes)

  1. Log in and open Account → Responsible Gambling (sometimes under Settings, Safer Gambling or the cashier).
  2. Choose the control you want — deposit limit, loss limit, session reminder, take-a-break or self-exclusion.
  3. Enter your figure or period and confirm. A tighter limit applies immediately.
  4. If you ever try to raise a limit, the increase is deliberately delayed (a cooling-off window) so it can't be done on impulse.
  5. Can't find the menu, or it doesn't apply? That's a red flag — contact support, and consider walking away from any operator that makes limits hard to use.

Blocking gambling across every site — not just one

Operator limits only cover the account you set them on. If you want to step back from gambling altogether, you need a block that works everywhere at once. This matters especially with offshore casinos, because GAMSTOP does not cover them — so the most important tool here is device-level blocking software.

UK-licensed only

GAMSTOP

Covers UK-licensed sites only. One free registration self-excludes you from every UKGC-licensed operator — but it does not reach the offshore casinos listed on this site. Use it as your baseline UK block.

gamstop.co.uk

Blocks offshore too

Gamban

This is the one that covers non-GamStop sites. Software you install on your phone, tablet and computer that blocks tens of thousands of gambling sites and apps — including offshore operators GAMSTOP can't touch. Funded free by GambleAware for many UK users.

gamban.com

In your banking app

Bank gambling block

Most UK banks (Monzo, Starling, Barclays, HSBC, Lloyds, Halifax, NatWest, Nationwide) let you switch off all gambling card payments in-app. Removing the block carries a built-in 24–48 hour cool-down, so it can't be undone in the heat of the moment.

A common, effective stack: switch on your bank's gambling block, install Gamban on every device, and register with GAMSTOP for the UK-licensed layer. Together they remove the money, the access and the temptation.

Financial safeguards

Spotting the warning signs

Gambling may have shifted from entertainment into harm if you recognise any of these in yourself — or someone close to you:

Quick self-check

Ask yourself honestly: Have you gambled more than you wanted to? Have you tried to win back losses? Have you bet more than you could afford to lose? Has anyone criticised your gambling, or has it caused you stress or guilt? Even one “yes” is worth paying attention to. For a proper confidential assessment, use the free self-assessment at BeGambleAware or talk it through with GamCare — it's free and you don't need a diagnosis to ask for support.

Protecting people under 18

Gambling is strictly for adults aged 18 and over. If children use your devices, keep your casino logins and payment details private, and consider parental-control software such as Gamban, Net Nanny or your device's built-in screen-time and content filters to block gambling content entirely. Never let anyone under 18 gamble on your account.

Free, confidential help & support

All of these are independent of Pamtree and of the operators we list. None of them will judge you, and contacting them changes nothing about your accounts unless you ask it to.

Pamtree provides information about offshore, non-GamStop operators for adults (18+) who have chosen to play outside the UK self-exclusion scheme. We are not a treatment service. Gambling carries real financial and personal risk; please use the tools on this page and gamble responsibly. If you live with a self-exclusion or are in recovery, the safest choice is not to play at all.
